Possibilities

October 9th, 2012

I have been home almost one week now, returning from a two week adventure across Ireland (the Republic), Scotland and England. I knew the trip would be life-changing but had no idea how. In fact I’d say the changes are still taking place as I digest where I’ve been, where I am, and where I intend to go.

I felt as a different person there; the energies, especially along the coasts, were very different from Southern California, and I don’t just mean in the culture or people. The place itself has a unique essence, which seems so obvious now that I’ve put it into writing. Anyways, I lived as a different person and it opened my eyes to the core of my being.

At first I kept wondering, what is it that makes us all do the same things? I saw people weeding their yards, picking up groceries, dropping their children off at school, all of the same things we do in California. No one was immune from having to call the plumber or taking their dogs to the vet. All of the sameness was at first irritating. I mean, here I was, thousands of miles from home, and everyone was still doing all this stuff?? I know, it’s very naïve of me to have thought it would be so different, but allow me to continue.

After our first week, spent entirely in the southern part of Ireland in the company of extremely green grass and very happy cows, I realized that my seeing this repetition of activity was supposed to show me something, so I opened to this. Of course how could I not have some great revelation when the planet was confronting me with such utter beauty?

Once we got to Scotland, we met up with some new friends who felt like family, if you know what I mean. Wende gave one of her fabulous workshops, and even though I’ve seen her do it a couple of times and we’ve talked about some of these ideas hundreds of times, I got something new out of this one. (Of course.) Here was a beautiful group of people, all having jobs and families and stuff to sort out, breathing, eating, all that; at the same time, each one so breathtakingly unique, it was as if I were in a candy store, looking at all the choices and seeing each one as so very delicious. (I hope no one minds being compared to candy!)

Indeed, every person we met, throughout the entire trip, was a treat. All of the inn-keepers, waiters and waitresses wherever we ate, shopkeepers, ice cream and coffee makers, lovely families who helped us find the right road… we were constantly buoyed up and blissed out.

After my return home, I began to see the Oneness in it all. The obvious parts, where we’re all doing some of the same stuff, helped; but it was the uniqueness that we all share that really drove it home. The spectrum of possibilities has lain itself out before me and I cannot help but be in awe of its diversity and unity. All That Is contains and therefore gives rise to every possible situation. There can be nothing outside of everything, of course, and finally I was shown a glimpse of this on our trip. I mean, it went beyond a mental image to the realm of experience. I am still reeling a bit, if you hadn’t noticed.

One of my favorite road signs, which I think we saw first in Edinburgh, was an indication that we were going to lose the lane we were in. But rather than showing an angled merge-in, as the signs in California would do, the lane that was ending had a red bar across the top of it. That’s it, your lane is done. Think about moving over, why don’t you? I am now taking this as a sign for me, that the lane I was in no longer exists and whether I was going to do it myself or just crash into the red bar, I had to move over. So I did. Thank you, Universe, for the subtle and obvious signs you place along my path. I still don’t know why I’m here, or why I am, but I’m definitely having more fun with the whole thing. And maybe that’s been the point all along. Lighten up, love. Can I make you some tea?

Oh, yes please!
